Operating systems explained

The Linux vs Windows debate.

We offer both of these systems. The Linux systems are usually cheaper because the licence is open source. In other words its free. Whereas the Microsoft offering is more expensive because of the costs involved. I will attempt to explain the reasons below.

Most of the machines that are received by our refurbishers have a Microsoft OEM licence on them. This is the orginal licence that was on the machine when it was purchased from a vendor/supplier such as Hewlett Packard. When this machine changed ownership, the refurbisher has usually three options,

  1. Rebuild it with the orginal disks (If they are still available)
  2. Rebuild it from the recovery partition (This may have virus's) or
  3. Obtain an refurbisher Licence from Microsoft at a cost. So when you buy a machine and it has a new operating system, make sure that you are given a original restore disk or it has been re-issued with a refurbishers licence. Otherwise  you are illegal.
